ACT YOUR
AGE

BY PETE MORRIS

Getting older is inevitable. Becoming sensible appears to be optional.

At some point you're supposed to become a proper grown-up.

Pete Morris is still waiting.

Act Your Age is an observational look at getting older, staying young, and the strange discovery that reaching sixty doesn't necessarily mean you've finally worked out what you're doing.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Apparently, this is what being a grown-up looks like.

When you're young, people in their sixties appear to belong to an entirely different species. They know things. They own sensible coats. They understand pensions.

Then one day you turn sixty yourself and discover you're basically the same person you've always been, except things make noises when you stand up.

Act Your Age is about ageing without necessarily becoming old: marriage, adult children, technology, changing bodies, old friends, younger generations, nostalgia, mortality and the absurdity of suddenly being treated as though you know what you're doing.

Age may bring wisdom. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be compulsory.

“I always assumed that by sixty I'd have become a proper grown-up. Apparently there has been some sort of administrative error.”
